It takes but a moment when our eyes are closed to call to mind an image of the school we attended. An image forms in our brains right away. But our eyes are closed. When we look at a view for a while and then subsequently close our eyes we can again see that image in our minds when we want to recall it. But again our eyes are closed. Although it is not our eyes that are doing the seeing and although there is no image of a school in front of us, this image still exists in our minds in almost the exact same form. The production of an image in the mind despite the lack of an eye to perceive it is evidence that the perceiver is something different than the eye and something not dependent on matter. It is the “soul” created by our Almighty Lord to be independent of matter and bestowed on human beings by Him that does the perceiving.

Dreams are of great importance to a proper understanding of this subject. Events, space, people, feeling and three-dimensionality are all the same in dreams as they are in this world. So much so that it is almost impossible to be convinced that these are not real when one is dreaming. Everywhere one dreams of is very real, people are real, and events take place in such a vivid way that the dreamer feels excitement in the face of them, and when one runs one actually grows out of breath. One can feel fear while dreaming, strive with all one’s might to escape from danger, or feel alarm in the face of the threat concerned. But while all this rushing around is going on for hours, you are actually lying comfortably in bed with your eyes closed. You are in a perfectly secure environment, and there is no-one trying to catch you, no rain falling and no danger confronting you. Furthermore, an event that seems to last for hours actually took place in your dream in a matter of minutes. And most important of all, these events were all created in your mind.

One important point that needs to be stressed with regard to dreaming is this: You do not have any direct experience of any element of the outside world when dreaming. The world you experience at that moment is generally different from the life you regard as real life. The environment you are in may be different, and the people you meet, even your parents, may be different. Your home and your fears may be different. It is impossible for you to actually see anything because your eyes are closed. But even if they were open the place you are in is not the place you see. The smell of grass you know so well is perfectly clear in a dream. But you are actually asleep on the tenth floor of an apartment block. You have no doubt about it when you eat and taste an apple; indeed, what you are eating may sometimes be a peach, but it tastes like an apple. And, what is more, there is nothing odd about that in that world. However, you are not really eating anything at all as you are asleep lying in bed. This is merely something created in your dream.

One may suffer pain in a dream. So much so that if you slip while you are running over grass you see you have cut your knee. You try to staunch the bleeding and feel the pain from your knee with perfect clarity. Yet no such thing has happened as you lie in bed. You feel the pain in the real sense, but no injury has occurred to your body.

But how is it you feel the pain of an injury that does not actually exist in just the same way as in reality? How is it that, although you are fast asleep, you can enjoy the taste of a delicious apple, and how can you feel fear, excitement and worry in order to escape from danger, despite being asleep in bed, perfectly and in a way identical to normal? How is it that, despite being asleep in your bed at home, you can run for hours over boundless expanses of land? And why are those hours in fact only minutes?

If you are not actually in that environment, then what is the power that shows you these things and causes you to feel them as if they were real?

It is of course our Almighty Lord Who causes you to feel these things in that way and Who keeps the soul under His constant supervision. In the same way that Allah (God) creates a perfectly clear and beautiful world in our minds in this world, so He can very definitely create an equally clear and perfect world in our dreams. There is no doubt that this is very easy for Him.

Our Lord has created the same natural causes for the real world and for dreams: electric signals. The things we think we see actually stem from electric signals, as do those in dreams. Although both have the same cause and although both are created in your minds, you still think that dreams are not real, but that this world is. The fact is, however, that they are essentially the same; both are illusions.

Time is different in dreams. And so is space. The laws of physics are sometimes different. But these are the only things that are real for you when you are dreaming. That being the case, since there is no difference between the way you perceive the world you are perceiving now and the world in your dreams, then this world clearly consists of an image created in your mind. The same physical activities take place in the brain whether you envisage something in your mind, whether you experience it in real life or whether you dream it. You generally think that the factor that gives rise to these activities is an external stimulus, such as light rays. But there is actually no light striking the retina, or no thorn pricking your finger, to give rise to images or sensations when you envisage a thing in your mind or when you dream it.

This makes the following fact perfectly obvious: The way this world is created is the same as dreaming. Therefore, the images you see in this world are created as illusions for you, just as in dreams. You watch events arising in your brain in a world also forming in your brain; you laugh at them, enjoy them or feel excitement at them. But Allah creates them all in your mind. If a person loses the five senses he or she possesses, this colorful, vivid, clear and perfect looking world that we are shown will also disappear, even though the outside world continues to exist. It is therefore impossible to maintain that something we see is the same as the original on the outside. It exists only in a world that Allah “creates for us” in our minds. We can never, ever know whether other people can see it or not, or whether we see the same image as the original on the outside.

Throughout the world, all people, without exception, talk about or at least think about one issue at one point in their lives: living a long life, and to avoid dying if at all possible… Scientists have been devoting serious effort to this end for many centuries, and have tried to find formulas to make people live a longer life. However, to this day, no progress has been made. Hence, with the verse, “We did not give any human being before you immortality. And if you die, will they then be immortal? Every self will taste death. We test you with both good and evil as a trial. And you will be returned to Us,” (Surat al-Anbiya’: 34-35) Allah instructs us that each person was created mortal, a fact which each will certainly face at his appointed time.

Regardless of the fact that people refrain from thinking or accepting the reality of death, the truth is that mankind is mortal. In any case, this worldly life is exceedingly short and transient. Each one is sent to this world in order to be tested for a period of time ranging from sixty to seventy years. Therefore, it would be a great mistake for anyone to base his plans on this worldly life alone, to accept this short-lived sojourn as his true life, and to forget the hereafter where he will live forever.

This fact stands out clear and simple so that all can easily comprehend it. Yet, as indicated in the following verse: “He Who created death and life to test which of you is best in action. He is the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving,” (Surat al-Mulk: 2) Allah adorned this world in order to create this environment in which man will be tested. One should not be deceived by the fact that some people compete with each other to maximize their enjoyment of these worldly blessings. Because, as the verses of the Qur’an indicate, those who live in negligence could in no way be deemed a group one should measure up to. Those, who strive to accumulate and heap up belongings, sacrifice their beliefs in order to acquire authority, and who play roles to earn the appreciation or approbation of others, are in fact running after illusory ideals. To suppose that this worldly life is real, and to run hopelessly after mundane benefits and rewards, is just as illogical, comical and humiliating as mistaking the scenes of a play for reality.

However, it should always be kept in mind that, not only those who devote themselves to this worldly life, but also those who expend effort to acquire benefits both in this world and the hereafter, are deluded. The life of this world was created as a blessing for mankind. While they are here, people should make the best possible use of its many splendors, and enjoy its many blessings. Yet, one should never idealize nor run after these blessings with excessive desire or ambition. He should utilize them all to live according to the religion in the best possible manner, to appreciate Allah, and to give thanks, after having recognized that which has been bestowed upon him by Allah. Acting in accordance with such reasoning as, “I can lead a life both to gain Allah’s consent and to make the best use of the benefits of the worldly life,” would be a thought-pattern damaging to one’s sincerity.

In the following verse, referring to some of His prophets, Allah reminds mankind that the behavior of those who keep solely the hereafter in mind are the best in merit with Him:

And remember Our servants Ibrahim, Ishaq and Ya’qub, men of true strength and inner sight. We purified their sincerity through sincere remembrance of the Abode. In Our eyes they are among the best of chosen men. (Surah Sad: 45-47)

Nevertheless, Allah bestows the greatest worldly blessings upon those who sincerely turn to Him and desire the hereafter. Thus, one who distances himself from sincerity by saying, “Let me have both this world and the next,” will in the end be deprived of both. One who longs for the hereafter alone will gain the blessings both of this world and the next.

Similarly, renown Turkish scholar Bediuzzaman Said Nursi said, “The secret of this matter lies in sincerity. The transient pleasures of this world become an ultimate purpose for those who have not succeeded to attain spiritual purity. Thus, the acts done by these people for the hereafter are effected by these pleasures, and their sincerity is tainted.  Because worldly objectives, pleasures could not be sought along with deeds to earn otherworldly rewards. If so, sincerity is harmed.” 1 He underlined that the aim to gain both worldly and otherworldly benefits emerge from a soul defficient in its education. Such thinking diminishes sincerity, and prevents one from performing pious deeds aimed at the hereafter.

In another of his works, Said Nursi noted that only those “who assume that the world is a guest house” could hope to lead the best and happiest of lives. Hence, such a frame of mind leads one to acquire Allah’s consent and to behave sincerely.

“I observe that the most fortunate person in this worldly life is he who sees the world as a military guest-house, and submits himself and acts accordingly. Through seeing it in this way, he may rise swiftly to the rank of Allah’s pleasure, the highest rank. Such a person will not give the price of a lasting diamond for something of the value of glass that will be broken. He will pass his life uprightly and with pleasure. Yes, the matters to do with this world are like pieces of glass doomed to be broken, while the lasting matters of the Hereafter have the value of flawless diamonds. The intense curiosity, fervent love, terrible greed, and stubborn desires, and other intense emotions in man’s nature were given in order to gain the matters of the Hereafter. To direct those emotions in intense fashion towards transitory worldly matters means giving the price of eternal diamonds for pieces of glass that are to be smashed.” 2

In these words, Bediuzzaman compared this worldly life to a breakable bottle, and the hereafter to a diamond. Anyone acting insincerely, by becoming carried away by this worldly life, will lose his heavenly recompense, just as a man sacrificing a diamond for a worthless glass bottle. On the other hand, one who comprehends that this world is a guest-house will not commit the same error, and will exert himself to the utmost in this world and the next. As Allah related in the Qur’an, in his early life, the Prophet Yusuf (as) was put through many tests, to which he responded with the utmost maturity and submission. No matter how dire the circumstances or how cunning the plots against him were, the Prophet Yusuf (as), never diverged from his faith, devotion, trust and submission to Allah, but rather drew nearer to Him and showed absolute submission.

For those who seek ways to draw nearer to Allah, there are really striking examples of moral perfection in the life of the Prophet Yusuf (as). The first thing we learn about him is the important dream he saw in his early years and the comment his father, Ya’qub (as), made about this dream:

Yusuf said to his father: “Father! I saw eleven bright stars, and the sun and moon as well. I saw them all prostrate themselves in front of me.” “My son”, he replied, “don’t tell your brothers of your dream, lest they devise some scheme to injure you. Satan is the sworn enemy of man. Accordingly, your Lord will pick you out and teach you the true meaning of events and perfectly confer His blessing upon you as well as upon the family of Ya’qub, as He conferred it perfectly before upon your forebears, Ibrahim and Ishaq. Most certainly your Lord is All-Knowing, and Wise.” (Surah Yusuf, 4-6)

Taking this dream to be a sign from Allah and realising that Yusuf (as) would become a noble person in Allah’s sight in future, his father wanted him to keep this dream to himself. His brothers, who felt that their father held Yusuf (as) more dear, became jealous of their father’s love and hatched a plot against Yusuf (as). They tried to kill him and draw their father’s love to themselves:

In Yusuf and his brothers there are Signs for those who ask. They declared, “Why! Yusuf and his brother are dearer to our father than we are, although we constitute a powerful group. Our father is clearly making a mistake.” Kill Yusuf or expel him to some far-off land, so that your father will look to you alone and after that you can be honourable men. One of them said, “Do not take Yusuf’s life, but, if you must, throw him to the bottom of a well, so that some travellers may discover him.” (Surah Yusuf, 7-10)

His brothers left Yusuf (as) in the depths of a well. Then, they came to their father, telling him that a wolf had devoured him, and offered his shirt with false blood stains as evidence. Despite this evidence, the Prophet Ya’qub (as) realized this incident to be a plot, took refuge in Allah and asked Him for help. Thanks to countless conditions predetermined by destiny, some travellers passing by the well found the Prophet Yusuf (as) and sold him as a slave to a governor in Egypt:

… Thus We established Yusuf in the land to teach him the true meaning of events. Allah is in control of all things, though most of mankind do not know it. And then when he became a full-grown man, We gave him knowledge and right judgment too. That is how We reward all doers of good. (Surah Yusuf, 21-22)

The wife of the governor who bought him approached the Prophet Yusuf (as), who was remarkably handsome, with wicked intentions. However, she was refused outright by Yusuf (as). Upon this, the wife of the governor resorted to slandering Yusuf (as) to maintain her innocence:

His master’s wife attempted to seduce him. She barred the doors and said, “Come over here!” “Allah is my refuge!” he (Yusuf) replied. “He is My Lord and has treated me with kindness. Those who do wrong shall surely never prosper.” (Surah Yusuf, 23)

They both rushed to the door. She tore his shirt at the back. They met her husband by the door. She said, “How should a man whose intention was to harm your family be punished for what he did, except with prison or painful punishment?” Yusuf said, “It was she who tried to seduce me.”… (Surah Yusuf,25-26)

The governor saw the shirt torn at the back and said, “The source of this is women’s deviousness. Without a doubt your guile is very great. Yusuf, ignore all this, and you, my wife, should ask forgiveness for your evil act. There is no doubt that you are in the wrong.” (Surah Yusuf, 28-29)

She said, “You see! It’s him you blamed me for. I tried seducing him but he refused. If he does not do what I order, he will be put in prison and brought low.” “My Lord”, said Yusuf, “prison is preferable to me than what they call on me to do. Unless You turn their guile away from me, it may well be that I will yield to them and so lapse into ignorance.” His Lord answered his prayer and turned away from him their female guile and deviousness. He is the One Who Hears, the One Who Knows. Yet, even after they had seen the Signs, they thought that they should still imprison him for a time. (Surah Yusuf, 32-35)

… and so he stayed in prison for several years. (Surah Yusuf, 42)

Now after being plotted against by his brothers and unjustly slandered by the governor’s wife, Yusuf (as) had nothing to look forward to but several years of imprisonment. However, throughout all these long years, the Prophet Yusuf (as) did not despair even for a moment but, aware that there is good and wisdom behind these events Allah ordained, hopefully prayed to Him and showed determination in his patience and faith. Indeed, years later, when the king sought for the interpretation of a dream he had had, an old prisoner recalled the Prophet Yusuf (as) as a person who had the faculty of interpreting dreams. Yusuf (as)’s interpretation of the dream greatly impressed the king. He thereupon called Yusuf (as) to his presence. Before the king had a chance to talk to him, the Prophet Yusuf (as) wanted the king to learn the facts about the incident for which he had been sent to prison so many years ago. So, for this explanation, the king returned to the governor’s wife and the women to whom she had introduced Yusuf (as) at the time of the incident:

… (The women said:) “Allah forbid! We know no bad of him.” The governor’s wife then said, “The truth has now emerged. Indeed I tried to seduce him then and he has simply told the honest truth.” (Surah Yusuf, 51)

After their confession, the Prophet Yusuf (as) gave the following explanation:

In this way he (i.e., the governor) will know at last that I did not dishonour him behind his back and that Allah most surely does not guide the deviousness of the dishonourable. I do not say that I myself was free from blame. The self indeed commands to evil acts-except for those my Lord has mercy on. My Lord, He is Forgiving and Merciful. (Surah Yusuf, 52-53)

These words of the Prophet Yusuf (as) are typical of his perfected faith. He always knew that Allah would help believers and those who are patient, and that He would certainly confound the schemes of those who betrayed Him. His trust in Allah manifested itself in his submission to his destiny. No matter how unfavourable the circumstances seemed, he could see that there was good and wisdom behind these events Allah ordained.

Another exemplary character trait of the Prophet Yusuf (as) was his refusal to indulge his lower self, even in situations in which he was absolutely right. He never trusted in his lower self and always remained conscious of the fact that one’s lower self is prone to evil. This is a form of morality peculiar to those having perfected faith who act with the awareness that employing the methods of the devil, the lower self stealthily approaches human beings and tempts those who ignore the voice of their conscience.

The attitude of the Prophet Yusuf (as) towards his lower self is a manifestation of his moral maturity. No doubt, the ultimate fate of a person who shows such deep-seated submission to Allah and trusts in Him will be infinite good. Indeed, in return for this meritorious submission to Allah, he was placed in authority over the treasures of Egypt. Granting him a good life in this world and giving the good news of paradise in the hereafter, Allah stated that “He would not allow to go to waste the recompense of those who do good”:

And thus We established Yusuf in the land and he dwelt there as he pleased. We grant Our grace to anyone We will and We do not allow to go to waste the recompense of those who do good. But the reward of the hereafter is the best for those who believe and fear their Lord. (Surah Yusuf, 56-57)

Since Darwinism is an ideology based on deceiving the world and turning people away from belief in Allah (God), the supporters of the Dajjal have to try to keep it alive, no matter what the cost. For that reason, the various people who have entered the Dajjal’s protection have resorted to all possible methods to keep the ideology on its feet. They heralded the theory of evolution as a proven fact, despite the fact there is not a single piece of evidence to support it. They have given the impression that non-existent evidence does in fact exist and have tried to adapt fossils to their own theory. They have produced fictitious intermediate forms, despite the fact that not a single genuine one exists, and have taught this as scientific fact in school books. They have ignored the countless pieces of evidence against evolution that have emerged, and have deliberately hidden them away from the public gaze. In the absence of any evidence for their theory, they have manufactured false fossils and exhibited these for decades in the world’s most famous museums. Instead of being ashamed when their frauds have been exposed, they have continued with their deceptive methods and have had no qualms about producing and defending new frauds. Although it has been scientifically proved that not one single protein can form by chance they have still insisted on maintaining that life first emerged by chance in muddy water. (The probability of a function protein forming by chance is 1 in 10950, in other words, zero.) They have had no compunctions about publishing their false evidence in newspapers and scientific journals and on the television, and have not hesitated to teach these to students in schools for years. Darwinism is a belief system based on fraud, deception and falsehood. Darwinism is not scientific. Ever since it was first launched, Darwin’s theory has assumed the task assumed by the ancient pagans; it has sought to disseminate paganism and to turn people away from belief in Allah. It deceived people for 150 years. For 150 years, it sought to familiarize people with a lie. Darwinism is a heretical religion that needs fraud to survive, that tells lies to attract supporters, and that excommunicates those who tell the truth.  Allah says in one verse: Say: “Shall I tell you of a reward with Allah far worse than that: that of those whom Allah has cursed and with whom He is angry – turning some of them into monkeys and into pigs – and who worshipped false deities? Such people are in a worse situation and further from the right way.” (Surat al-Ma’ida, 60) Under normal conditions, there would be no logic at all in people continuing to follow such a perverted ideology. But some people have fallen into a snare laid by the Dajjal. All unawares, they have been deceived by this deception, not knowing what they were doing or how they had been led astray. Because the Dajjal has employed a very cunning method. As Darwinism deceived the world it made contact, by fraudulent and perverted means, with people who had undertaken this cunning and ugly work of the Dajjal. However, it is also certain that, as with all superstitious religions, the cunning snares laid in this religion will also come to nothing:   They are hatching a plot. I too am hatching a plot. So bear with the unbelievers – bear with them for a while. (Surat at-Tariq, 15-17)

Materialism and the various ideologies and movements stemming from it represent one of the worst forms of corruption opposed to religion in the present day. The idea that encapsulates all these and that is their supposed scientific starting point and foundation is Darwinism. Since it was first proposed, Darwinism has become the basis for materialist and anti-religious ideologies and movements, and has literally been turned into a religion by the supporters of such ideologies. The great Islamic scholar Bediuzzaman Said Nursi drew attention to the fact that Darwinism will become the religion of the Dajjal (the Antichrist) in the End Times in these words:

“An impious movement emerging from the philosophy of naturalism and materialism will spread and strengthen by way of philosophy during the End Times, even to the extent of claiming divinity.”[i]

Described by Bediuzzaman as “an impious movement emerging from the philosophy of naturalism and materialism,” Darwinism is a teaching that ascribes an independent power to nature, that claims that all of life is the work of blind chance rather than being created, and that seeks to turn people away from belief in Allah (God). The Concise and Expounded al-Kutub as-Sitta(The Six Books), a collection of the hadith of our Prophet (saas) and interpretations thereof, provides the following clarification of the subject: “The most evident and worst characteristic of the corruption caused by the Dajjal in the End Times is its hostility to religion. Various humanist views and values that will appear in the End Times will seek to replace religion. This new religion will base itself on denial in order to eliminate every kind of current divine dominion… This is an anti-religious faith whose basic deity will be a material and human.”[ii]

Darwinists have always tended to portray the theory of evolution as scientific. They maintain that life formed out of inanimate substances and developed by way of evolution, and that all species gradually descended from one another. However, Darwinism has never proven a single one of these stages, and is a system of belief nonetheless loudly heralded as scientific. According to Darwinism, “chance” is the great fictitious mechanism of this whole fictitious process. Chance is the false deity of Darwinism. And Darwinists imagine that this deity can do the impossible. According to Darwinists, this false deity produced a living cell from muddy water, turned fish into tigers and bears into whales, and created their lungs out of nothing. Again according to Darwinists, who assume that human beings are entities descended from apes, this false deity bestowed intelligence, memory and skills on human beings and created human consciousness, which cannot be replicated in any form, from nothing. So much so that in doing all these things, chance somehow manages to behave in a controlled, planned and rational manner and to immediately take precautionary measures when necessary. According to Darwin’s theory of evolution, chance is a false creator behaving intelligently and in a planned manner.

This heretical theory that deifies blind chance has somehow been imposed on vast masses of people through demagoguery and fraud. The reason for this is the Dajjal. The characteristics set out in many of the hadith concerning the Dajjal become crystal clear when considered in terms of an ideology. That is why all ideologies and systems of thought that make illogical and groundless claims, that lead people to denial and turn them away from religious moral values and that encourage conflict between people are all manifestations of the Dajjal. Darwinism is the main ideology adopting this system of Dajjal. Allah, our Lord, describes those who follow the heretical system of the Dajjal as follows in a verse from the Qur’an:
The evildoers are indeed misguided and insane. (Surat al-Qamar, 47)

Although some people may realize that images consist of electric signals in the brain, they may also form the impression that the other senses, touch for instance, are different. They may think that when they touch or smell something they are making direct contact with real matter. Again, however, they are actually perceiving nothing more than electric signals in the brain.

When we touch something with our hands, we are not really touching that object at all. A chemical bond is formed between atoms in a constant state of motion. But these atoms never actually “touch” one another. In physical terms, therefore, we have never touched anything we think we have. As a result of this illusory sense of touch, the atoms in our hands vibrate and initiate an electrical current. That current then moves towards the touch center in our brains. It is then “interpreted” when it arrives. And this is a great miracle. In the same way that the visual center interprets an incoming current as a yellow rose, the touch center interprets the signals reaching it as soft, hot or rough. Similar signals head from our mouths to the taste region in the brain and form a sensation of flavor, sweetness or sourness. The signals from the nose reaching the scent detection center in the brain and set up a perception in the brain regarding the aroma of the object in question. Sound from the ears reaches the brain in the form of other electric signals, and we then in some way are convinced that the person calling our names is our mother. We enjoy the tunes set up by electrical signals forwarded to the brain from the ear, and have no doubt that the ringtone is actually coming from the phone.

All this is an extraordinary miracle created by Allah.

But the sound we hear does not actually belong to the phone, and neither does the sound of music come from our stereos. We experience the sound of a telephone, the original of which we can never see, the original of which we can never hear unless Allah so wills. What we see is not the yellow flower on the outside. That flower, its image, its perfume and all its beauty, consists of electric signals reaching our brains. And we have no evidence whether the image of this flower is the same as the real flower on the outside. Peter Russell explains this as follows:

If all that we ever know are the sensory images that appear in our minds, how can we be sure there is a physical reality behind our perceptions? Is it not just an assumption? My answer is: Yes, it is an assumption; nevertheless, it seems a most plausible one.i

There is no doubt that it is impossible for us to know whether the images, sounds, smells and tastes that form in our brains actually exist on the outside. On the basis of this, we can be sure of only one thing; there is a world created especially for us in our brains. And we can never know whether other people see this world in the same way we do.  We can only see the images, hear the sounds and taste the flavors of a world created especially for us. We can have no direct experience of anything else.

That being the case, we need to ask the following question: can electric signals alone give rise to such a harmonious world?

Of course, not. It is Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, Who creates the world for us in all its reality, clarity and beauty. Allah bestows on us a soul from His own spirit. It is the soul created by Allah that perceives, enjoys and rejoices, and the electric signals are merely an instrument.

The lovelessness, unhappiness and conflict in society are increasing day by day. A report concerning children in Britain has set out how they are being “DEMONIZED” by society. The report states that attitudes toward youngsters generally are hardening, and that a great number are in detention. This once again reveals how crucially important it is for society to live by the moral values of the Qur’an. People who abide by the moral virtues of the Qur’an have very great compassion for one another. It is impossible for there to be lovelessness, unhappiness or conflict among such people. Our Almighty Lord reveals this in verses:

A Light has come to you from Allah and a Clear Book. By it, Allah guides those who follow what pleases Him to the ways of Peace. He will bring them from the darkness to the light by His permission, and guide them to a straight path. (Surat al-Ma’ida, 15-16)

Other Muslims have closer ties to the Muslims than their own selves. They protect, elevate and value each other before themselves. When it comes to children needing protection, they set themselves to one side and enthusiastically and affectionately help them for Allah’s (God’s) approval. That is why there is always peace in Muslim societies. There is no conflict or crime because everyone behaves in a manner of which Allah will approve. Believers who fear Allah treat one another with enormous loyalty and compassion. By Allah’s will, they are able to live together in peace, happiness and love. There can be no lovelessness or unhappiness among people who possess an intense love and fear of Allah. In the Qur’an, Allah praises love and solidarity and commands people to have moral virtues. Human nature is predisposed to love and beauty. Human beings want to be happy. But when they seek happiness through worldly means they fall into a great error and are totally unable to find the peace, security and love they seek.

Allah reveals in a verse that human nature is created to be compatible with Qur’anic moral values:

So set your face firmly towards the Religion, as a pure natural believer, Allah’s natural pattern on which He made mankind. There is no changing Allah’s creation. That is the true Religion – but most people do not know it. (Surat ar-Rum, 30)

Greed for money or material possessions is one of satan’s snares. When people live without thinking of the Hereafter, without faith, solely for their own worldly interests, they literally become friends of satan. But in doing this, they are heedless of the following verse of the Qur’an:

… Satan always leaves man in the lurch. (Surat al-Furqan, 29)

That is why it has become almost nothing out of the ordinary to come across increasing numbers of reports of “demonization” in the press. The numbers of children committing crimes, and aggressive people, murderers and perverts, have reached terrifying proportions. The solution is to live in full compliance with the moral values of the Qur’an, and to act out of a love and fear of Allah.

Almighty Allah (God) is Omniscient. Infinite knowledge and blessings are His. And our Lord is infinitely beautiful and infinitely loving. He created man and gave him form as a manifestation of that infinite beauty.

Human beings possess the soul given them by Allah. This means that they may possess great amounts of all things through His will and mercy.

People generally live without realizing this in the life of this world. So they never think that they might be able to possess a boundless power of love and wisdom. As a result, they fail to love other people because they possess the spirit of Allah, and it never even crosses their minds. They are unaware that people possess a depth of soul stemming from the spirit of Allah and, therefore, that they could enjoy an intimate and powerful love with them. And this is definitely a major deficiency.

For these reasons, these people tend to have a very superficial conception of love. The love they feel and give is limited to the physical–or to their homes, cars and future security… As a result, that love comes to an end whenever they come to any physical harm, when they lose their cars, or when their futures are threatened. That is as far as their conception can go. There is no system that can repair and rebuild it. Since they are all bound to transitory values, since the life of this world is transitory, and since these things will all eventually disappear, it is inevitable that their love will also cease to exist. And that is indeed what happens.

But when one loves other people because they bear the spirit of Allah and knows that there is the possibility of an infinite love and loving from Allah, it is impossible for that feeling ever to come to an end unless Allah so wills. One realizes that one can enjoy a love that matures, deepens and increases with the passage of time, rather than shrinking in the face of the passing of time, sickness, want and trouble. There is no limit to that.

People’s true state is that in the Hereafter, where there is no imperfection or difficulty. Allah will manifest human beings there with the perfect form He wills them to have. It will only be possible for someone with the spirit of Allah to experience love by feeling the delight enjoyed by the soul, to discover the deep personality and existence in other people’s eyes and to establish a profound connection to them in their minds by binding themselves to and understanding Allah. Knowing that one bears the spirit of Allah is an infinite blessing. By Allah’s will, one can possess all things an infinite number of times. And that includes love.

In a verse our Almighty Lord reveals that true love can only be bestowed from His presence:

As for those who believe and do right actions, the All-Merciful will bestow His love on them. (Surah Maryam, 96)

Assume that you set up a big city by bringing millions of Legos together. Let there be in this city skyscrapers, twisting roads, railway stations, airports, shopping malls, subways and also rivers, lakes, forests and a beach. Let there also be living in it thousands of people wandering in its streets, sitting in their homes and working in their offices. Take every detail into account. Even the traffic lights, box offices, and the signboards at the bus stations.

If someone came up to you and said that all the Legos of this city, which you had founded by planning it right down to the smallest detail, and each piece of which you had picked up with great pains, had been brought together by coincidence to produce this city, what would you think of the mental state of that person?

Now, go back to the city you have built and consider that the whole city would be leveled to the ground if you had forgotten to put into place even a single Lego, or changed its place. Can you imagine what great balance and order you have had to establish?

Life in the world where we live is also made possible by the accumulation of such a great number of details incomprehensible to the human mind. The absence of even one of these details might mean the end of life on the Earth.

Everything, every detail from the atom, the smallest unit of matter, to the galaxies harboring billions of stars, from the Moon, an inseparable adjunct of the world, to the solar system, all work in a perfect harmony. This well-organized system runs flawlessly, just like a watch. People are so confident that this billions-of-years-old system will go on functioning without leaving out even the smallest detail that they can freely make plans about something they think will be realized in the next 10 years. No one is worried about whether the Sun will rise the next day. A great majority of people do not think about ‘whether the world may ever chance to break free from the gravitation of the Sun and start to move towards the unknown in the pitch-dark space’; or ask ‘What keeps this from happening?’

In the same manner, when people are about to sleep, they are very confident that their hearts or respiratory systems will not relax as their brains do. However, even a few seconds’ halt in any one of these two vital systems may well cause results that will cost one’s life.

When the ‘glasses of familiarity’ which surround the whole of life and cause every event to be assessed as if ‘it is taking place in its natural course’ are taken off, one is free to see that everything is made up of such closely interdependent, meticulously planned systems that it is as if we were hanging on to life by the skin of our teeth. You notice an excellent order prevailing in every spot you turn your eyes on. Certainly, there is a great power that creates such an order and harmony. The possessor of this great power is God, Who created everything out of nothing. In a verse of the Qur’an, it is said:

He Who has created seven heavens in full harmony with one another: no incongruity will you see in the creation of the Most Gracious. And turn your vision (upon it) once more: can you see any flaw? Yea, turn your vision (upon it) again and yet again: (and every time) your vision will fall back upon you, dazzled and truly defeated. (Surat al-Mulk, 3-4)

When we look at the living beings in the heavens, on the Earth and in all that lies between them, we see that they all prove the existence of their Creator in their own right. So I suggest we all take a moment to reflect on the natural phenomena and living beings that every one sees, yet never thinks about, and how they have come into being and continue their existence. If we were to write down all the signs of God in the universe, they would fill many thousands of volumes of encyclopedias.

For God Exists.

To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the Earth and He is known through reason.

There is not one single piece of evidence for Darwinism. For that reason, for the last 150 years Darwinists have used a different technique to providing evidence; clamor and demagoguery.

–          Darwinists resort to all possible means to cover up the fact that the theory of evolution is a deception. Academics and scientists questioning evolution and espousing anti-Darwinian views are hurriedly removed from their posts and silenced.

–          They attempt to portray the fraud of Darwinism as a highly complex scientific reality. They try to deceive people with complicated formulae and unintelligible terminology. They take advantage of science and people’s respect for it, even though there is nothing scientific to the theory whatsoever.

–          They engage in loud and long demagoguery and resort to charlatanry instead of giving scientific responses to people holding other views. Since they are unable to provide any real scientific evidence at all, they imagine that they can invalidate the definitive proofs of Creation by making so-called jokes and using a mocking, improper tone. They imagine they will thus be able to deceive people, even though the evidence is plain for everyone to see.

–          They try to prevent people thinking and investigating the true facts. They imagine that only in this way can they prevent the fraudulent nature of Darwinism being exposed. They try to prevent people thinking by means of demagogic accounts and complicated, incomprehensible articles adorned with grotesque-looking formulae.

–          Some foreign pro-Darwinist publications are the best example of this. None of these can ever say, “Yes, there are 100 million fossils that prove Creation, and we rebut these in any way.” They never mention the amber containing organisms exactly as they were millions of years ago. They never raise these issues because they know only too well that they all totally refute Darwinism. They merely resort to plenty of unintelligible demagoguery of no scientific value.

–          They apply pressure to ensure that students holding anti-Darwinist views are expelled from their schools. For example, in a report on the subject in the British weekly The Observer, Darwinist scientists are reported to say that “if religion stops their students accepting evolution, there is no point in them staying at university.” This is a clear statement from the mouths of Darwinists regarding the Darwinist technique of menaces and intimidation.

–          One of the demagogic techniques most frequently employed by Darwinists is the claim that the financing for Harun Yahya’s matchless works that have stunned the whole world comes from outside Turkey. A report that recently appeared in The Observer claimed that the activities in question were backed from Saudi Arabia. Yet it is quite evident that Saudi Arabia attaches no importance to the subject of evolution and that the state has no anti-evolutionary policy. If the Saudi Arabian administration really wanted to engage in anti-evolutionary activity there is no doubt that it would not do this in Turkey. That would be meaningless. The Saudi government has sufficient money and resources to carry out wide-ranging activities in its own country. The demagoguery that Darwinists engage in on this subject is highly illogical and utterly ludicrous.

–          It was also suggested in the same paper that poor schools in Turkey were grateful for Harun Yahya’s books. This is another demagogic technique. Harun Yahya’s books are read right across the world because they are of scientific value and make the true facts crystal clear. It is wealthy European countries and America that read these books the most. People buy and like these books because they tell the truth. But Darwinists are unable to swallow this.

–          Another aspect of the same demagoguery is the claim that Darwinist scientists are afraid to speak out. In fact these scientists have no fear at all of speaking to the proponents of Creation. Their fear lies in having no evidence in favor of Darwinism despite all the millions of proofs of Creation. There is no reason why they should not take part in debates of this kind if they did have any scientific evidence of their own. They are unable to respond to the 100 million fossils that prove the fact of Creation, and are unable to admit that proteins cannot form by chance. They know that they will be faced with clear and incontrovertible scientific facts during the course of any debate. And they have no answers to them.

–          The Council of Europe’s attempt to have the teaching of the Atlas of Creation in schools banned, also described in The Observer, is one of Darwinists’ best-known so-called intimidatory techniques. They imagine than banning books will stop people accessing the scientific facts. The fact is, however, that permitting no alternative view to the one-sided teaching of Darwinism in schools is a disgrace to Darwinists themselves. Fascism is still taught as an opposing view in schools of philosophy that teach communism. Alternative theories to the Big Bang are still taught regarding the formation of the universe. The situation in this example is even more terrible, because Creation is a fact proved by scientific evidence, whereas Darwinism is just nonsense.

If Darwinists had the evidence to prove their theory, and if they genuinely believed that their theory was true, then they would very definitely feel no need to resort to demagoguery, to try to hide the evidence for Creation, and to attempt to intimidate scientists and other proponents of Creation. The main reason for Darwinists’ banning books, mockery, long demagogic accounts and unwillingness to engage in debates is that Darwinism is terrible nonsense that has deceived the world for the last 150 years.

But all these measures, clamor and demagoguery have come to an end now that the existence of 100 million fossils supporting Creation has been made public. People have now seen the daylight. And there is no point in trying to tell them it is still dark outside. The scientific facts are in front of everyone’s eyes. The Darwinist lie has been unmasked. From now on, by the will of Allah (God), Darwinists will always be defeated no matter what demagoguery they resort to.

As a verse of the Qur’an reveals, “… Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah and the Final Seal of the Prophets.” (Surat al-Ahzab: 40), the Prophet Muhammad (saas) was sent to mankind as the last prophet. He was a living example of the sublime morality of Allah’s last revelation. He was a friend of Allah and inspired humanity by his nearness to Him. He was His representative, noble in His eyes, and a friend to all believers.

As Allah has revealed in another verse, “We will impose a weighty Word upon you…” (Surat al-Muzammil: 5), He charged His last prophet, Muhammad (saas) with a heavy responsibility. Due to the Prophet’s (saas) strong faith in Allah, he fulfilled that responsibility in the best possible way, called mankind to the path of Allah and Islam, and illuminated the way for all believers.

Although we have never seen the Prophet (saas), we can still do our very best to come to know his exemplary behavior, his sayings and the pleasing morality he displayed, by means of the verses of the Qur’an and the hadiths (the sayings and teachings of the Prophet [saas]). We can try to be like him, in order to be close to him in the Hereafter.

People today, and the young in particular, take many individuals as role models, imitate the way they behave, speak and dress, and try to be like them. Yet, since the great majority of these people are not on the right road themselves, they lack proper morality and attitudes. It is therefore a serious responsibility to lead people to the truth and the best morality and behavior. A Muslim needs to try to emulate the behavior and the morality of the Prophet Muhammad (saas). Allah confirms that in a verse:

You have an excellent model in the Messenger of Allah, for all who put their hope in Allah and the Last Day and remember Allah much. (Surat al-Ahzab: 21)

Like the Prophet Muhammad (saas), the other prophets were also role models for believers, and enjoyed Allah’s good pleasure. Allah says in one verse:

There is instruction in their stories for people of intelligence. This [the Qur’an] is not a narration which has been invented but confirmation of all that came before, a clarification of everything, and a guidance and a mercy for people who believe. (Surah Yusuf: 111)

As the Prophet (saas) has revealed in the hadith, “Verily, I have left amongst you the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Apostle which if you hold fast, you shall never go astray,”[1] a Muslim’s two truest guides are the Qur’an and Sunnah (the practice of the Prophet Muhammad (saas)). The Prophet Muhammad (saas) was an example to all humanity with his morality, to which he called on mankind to live by. It was the Prophet (saas) who said “I was sent to perfect good character”[2] and “By One in whose hand there is my life: None shall enter Paradise except one who has got good conduct.”[3]

In the Qur’an Allah has revealed that the Prophet (saas) possessed the finest morality, and says:

Nun. By the Pen and what they write down! By the blessing of your Lord, you are not mad. You will have a wage which never-fails. Indeed you are truly vast in character. So you will see and they will see which of you is mad. Your Lord knows best who is misguided from His Way and He knows best those who are guided. (Surat al-Qalam: 1-7)

Allah also revealed in that verse that the Prophet (saas) was a tireless toiler on His path. That demonstrates that he always displayed a pleasing morality, never departing from the way of Allah.

As the Prophet’s (saas) words “The most perfect believer in respect of faith is he who is best of them in manners”[4] make clear, morality is one the most important components of true faith. It is therefore an important religious duty to learn about and practice the very best examples of it. Those Muslims who follow the way of the Prophet (saas) need to be foremost in their morality and behavior, and to invite others to adopt that same morality.

Over the centuries, various theories have been proposed in biology, physics, chemistry, biochemistry and just about all other such branches of science. These are then either eventually confirmed or disproved. Thus is it that scientific theories lead to scientific progress.   When it comes to the theory of evolution, however, the rules are very different. The theory is not built on any scientific data. It is constructed around a twisted ideology. Those who refuse to admit that Allah (God) created life tried to develop what they regard as an alternative to the fact of Creation. To put it another way, Darwinism is a religion adopted by evolutionists in order to deny the existence of Allah.   It is for that reason that the methods used in the imposition and dissemination of Darwinism have always been very different from real scientific theories and scientific progress. Not one single scientific finding has to date supported the theory of evolution. The theory is literally devoid of any supporting evidence at all. Not one single piece of experimental evidence showing that the false mechanisms of Darwinism lead to evolution has ever been obtained. On the contrary, all the scientific evidence obtained has refuted Darwinism time and time again. Scientific progress and further additions to the fossil record continue to demolish the theory.   Nonetheless, however, the theory of evolution is still under protection all over the world. That applies to no other scientific theory or ideological movement. None enjoy global protection or are officially preserved under the law. Anyone who wishes to can criticize fascism or capitalism, set out their ideas about all ideologies and express contrary views. But it is impossible to do such a thing with Darwinism. Those who are critical of Darwinism in any way are immediately removed from their posts and hastily prevented from making their views public.

Professors who have devoted 20 or 30 years to their own universities are suddenly removed from their posts the moment they criticize Darwinism. A state employee will be sacked the moment he is realized to be an anti-Darwinist. A biology teacher can never tell his or her close friends and family or students that he or she is opposed to the theory of evolution. Because they know that their career will come to an end if they do. This law is so strictly implemented that it is literally a crime to say a word against Darwinism. Nobody has the courage to do that.   It is because of this giant hegemony that the evident insoluble dilemmas facing evolution and the frauds of Darwinism are never spoken of out loud. These are the bans that cannot be breached in universities! One cannot say that there exists not one single transitional fossil. One can never say that it is mathematically impossible for a single protein to come into being by chance and that this is a scientific fact. One cannot say that there are more than 100 million living fossils that refute evolution. Living fossils are hidden away and disregarded the moment they are found. One can never say that countless frauds have been perpetrated in the name of Darwinism, and that fossils are hurriedly removed from museums once they are shown to be false. Neither can one ever say that Darwinism is a lie that has deceived the world for the last 150 years.   Because Darwinism is a false religion, but a false religion under state protection.   The spell of this dark religion was broken for the first time by Harun Yahya’s magnificent Atlas of Creation. This book revealed everything that nobody had had the courage to say before, and told the whole world, with full supporting evidence, how Darwinism is a terrible lie. It is available to everyone in the world over the internet, and has told everyone that although there exist no intermediate fossils that might support the theory of evolution, there are more than 100 million fossils that refute it. It has exhibited these fossils in full detail and proved, using proof that is a far cry from evolutionist demagoguery, that the theory of evolution is a lie. It said what nobody was able to say for 150 years, immediately neutralized all the intimidatory techniques employed by this dark faith that enjoys world-wide protection, and exposed all its lies. That is the reason for the Darwinist panic going on at the moment.   Evolutionists had constructed a plan to rule the world and shape the course of its future. They imagined that this plan, which they had placed under global protection, would operate totally smoothly. But they are unaware that Allah is the best planner of all and that He will confound and destroy all of Satan’s snares. Allah has demolished this superstitious faith. No matter what lies they may choose to come up with, Darwinism will never, by Allah’s leave, be able to deceive people again.

As our Almighty Lord says in one verse:

They plotted and Allah plotted. But Allah is the best of plotters. (Surah Al-‘Imran, 54)

Ever since Allah (God) created the first human being, and throughout the course of history, He has created the world in the form of a place where two negative forces fight. There have been messengers and righteous believers who have preached the true faith of Allah at all times and in all societies. On the other hand, leading deniers engaged in propagandizing irreligiousness have waged a ruthless struggle against the true faith. This is a law of Allah He revealed in the Qur’an.

The power of these two negative forces in the End Times will be one of the most striking phenomena in history. Allah has charged the blessed Mahdi with bringing the moral values of Islam to prevail over the whole world in the End Times, which will take place shortly before the Last Day. The Mahdi, who assumes such an honorable and glorious responsibility awaited with hope and enthusiasm by the Islamic world for fourteen centuries, will of course be opposed by a powerful negative force that will pave the way for the greatness of this task. That force created by Allah in direct opposition to the Mahdi is the Dajjal (the Antichrist).

In order for the Mahdi to appear, and as part of the test that is the law of Allah, there must be various instruments to cause a climate of degeneration to arise in the End Times, and denial and irreligiousness must spread. These special negative forces created in order for the Mahdi to appear undertook very special tasks in the 20th and 21st centuries in order to turn people away from the way of Allah. The main source of these is Darwinism, which represents the basis of all the intellectual systems of the Dajjal and is the worst deception of the century.

Darwin is one of the greatest representatives of the system of the Dajjal in the End Times. It was Darwin who spread the greatest deception of the century across the whole world. The whole world was made captive by that mass deception. Hundreds of thousands of people, hundreds of thousands of university professors, hundreds of thousands of academics were taken in by this fallacy, which intellectually made the entire world’s great countries’ universities captive. People who were unwilling to explain the world in terms of Allah’s creation resorted instead to the theory of evolution — the hardest thing to believe but the easiest to talk about. “Initially, there was muddy water on Earth,” they said, and claimed that the raw material for proteins emerged by chance in that muddy water. They said that all these then combined together by chance and gave rise to proteins, which cannot possibly form by chance. Then they said “the proteins combined together to form the cell, and the cell came to life and multiplied. Arms and legs appeared, and then eyes and ears.” They then went on to say, “The eye began to see by chance, and the ear to hear.” They then claimed that the fingers began to possess the sense of touch by chance, and the nose began to smell, again by chance, and the tongue coincidentally began to experience the sense of taste. And they kept this lie up for years, convincing people of this nonsense in the most astonishing way.

This is rather like saying: “Let us put all kinds of chemical substances into a bowl. Then let us watch over it for millions of years, bequeathing it from one generation to the next. Finally, let us see giraffes, tigers, apricot trees, melons, mynah birds, peacocks, cats, elephants, cherries and human beings emerge from it!”

That is essentially what Darwinism says. And it has deceived the whole world by hypnotizing it with this false and facile idea. Hundreds of thousands of professors, hundreds of thousands of lecturers and hundreds of thousands of teachers all signed up to this nonsense. Psychological pressure was put on those who refused to believe it, along the lines of “Don’t tell us you don’t believe it!” and they were intimidated as they were expelled from their schools or removed from their posts. Darwinism literally established a system of terror across the world.

Actually, the proponents of the Darwinist lie themselves know that Darwinism is a fallacy, in exactly the same way that the people of the Prophet Abraham (pbuh) continued worshiping idols despite knowing they had absolutely no power at all. Almighty Allah describes the position of that idolatrous people in verses:

He [Abraham] broke them in pieces, except for the biggest one, so that they would have it to consult! (Surat al-Anbiya’, 58) They said, “Did you do this to our deities, Abraham?” He said, “No, this one, the biggest of them, did it. Ask them if they are able to speak!” They consulted among themselves and said, “It is you yourselves who are wrongdoers.” But then they relapsed back into their unbelief: “You know full well these idols cannot talk.” (Surat al-Anbiya’, 62-65)

Darwinists are also in the same position, or even worse than the logic of the idolaters of the past, since this distorted mindset even makes idols out of quadrillions times quadrillions of atoms.

Darwin also produced other dajjals with this perverted and feeble claim. Darwin is the great shaman priest who raised up such blood-shedding communist and fascist dictators as Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Hitler and Mussolini who made mass killings.

But Darwin emerged with the weakest atheist belief that a human mind can conceive of. So much so that it depends on an exceedingly rotten logic that could be demolished by the slightest puff of wind. This system was specially created for the emergence of the Mahdi. The reason why it is so wide-ranging is for people to see how easy it is to fall captive to satan and how easily the system of the Mahdi will tear that other system down. This is a system that the blessed Mahdi will demolish with a single breath. Indeed, this system is already collapsing today due to the activities of those preparing the way for the Mahdi.

Our Prophet (saas) has also stated that the intellectual system of the Dajjal that deceives the whole world will be demolished with a single breath from the blessed Mahdi: “… It is impossible for any unbeliever who scents his breath not to die. The fact that the Dajjal is a liar will radiate out in waves. Dajjalism will be overthrown and his intellectual system destroyed.”[1]

Our Lord reveals this fact in another verse:

Rather We hurl the truth against falsehood and it cuts right through it and it vanishes clean away! Woe without end for you for what you portray! (Surat al-Anbiya’, 18)

Darwinists never expected to one day be confronted by 100 million fossils that totally discredit their theory. They never anticipated scientific proof of the fact that it is impossible for proteins to form by chance. They never foresaw the fact that there are no intermediate forms would eventually come out. They never admitted the slightest possibility that all the fossils heralded as transitional forms were actually perfectly formed, extinct organisms, or that the whole world would learn that the skulls depicted as proof of evolution were false. Darwinists are currently literally in a state of shock. They never expected this fallacy they disseminated across the world to be obliterated so quickly and easily. This atheist nonsense imposed on vast sections of society, Darwinism in other words, has indeed come to an end. This lie that deceived the entire humanity was specially created for the blessed Mahdi to combat, and has been equally specially eradicated. It is Almighty Allah, the certain Creator of all things, Who has both created and destroyed it. He reveals in another verse:

You did not kill them; it was Allah Who killed them; and you did not throw, when you threw; it was Allah Who threw: so He might test the believers with this excellent trial from Him. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (Surat al-Anfal, 17)

A believer devotes his entire life to Allah. He lives for Allah, works for Allah and loves for Allah’s sake. “Loving for Allah’s sake” might be an incomprehensible concept for someone who is not well acquainted with true Islam. One who has remained distant from Allah throughout his life, and who has therefore not known Him, will be unaware of how to love Allah intuitively.

However, a believer who knows Allah and witnesses His mercy to him, who recognises that everything he loves is His blessing and that he owes his existence and life to His mercy, loves Allah and attains the noble spirit of loving for the sake of Allah. In the Qur’an, the great difference between believers and other people in this sense is stated as follows:

Some people set up equals to Allah, loving them as they should love Allah. But those who believe have greater love for Allah… (Surat al-Baqara: 165)

As is stated in the verse above, those who associate partners with Allah and who, in their minds, ascribe all attributes of Allah to other beings, love these beings as they should love Allah. This is the kind of love that is based on idolatry.

Aware that everything belongs to Allah and every being’s existence is consequential upon Allah’s creation, believers love Allah most. The believer grasps the following fact:

– Nothing (be it a human being, a thing or an event, etc.) has a beauty of its own. Allah creates all things and endows them with beauty. Since a person, for example, has not designed and formed his or her face himself, that beauty is a beauty that belongs to Allah.

– Allah gives this beauty to man, whom he created from nothing, for a brief time only (since that person will soon grow old and die). Only Allah possesses the power to recreate that beauty in the hereafter, in an even more perfect form.

This being the case, a believer loves all the things he encounters in this world, aware that they all belong to Allah and that he will encounter the “original” form of their beauty in the hereafter. Consequently, his actual love is for Allah, the One Who provides him with everything he loves: He is the real Owner of every kind of beauty.

Contrary to the concept of love based upon faith in Allah that is enjoyed by believers, disbelievers’ love is based on idolatry. In the Qur’an, this form of love is described in the words of Prophet Ibrahim (as):

He said, “You have adopted idols apart from Allah as tokens of mutual affection in this world. But then on the Day of Rising you will reject one another and curse one another. The Fire will be your shelter. You will have no helpers.” (Surat al-‘Ankabut: 25)

Said Nursi, also known as Bediuzzaman (the Wonder of the Age), one of the greatest Islamic scholars of the twentieth century, likens this form of love to that of a man who looks at the sun through a mirror held in his hand. Once the mirror is broken into pieces and light is no longer reflected from it, the man feels profound distress at having lost a source of light. However, he is not intelligent enough to conceive that the light in the mirror does not actually originate from it. The light comes from the sun; mirrors only reflect it.

Believers love only Allah and those who place faith in Him. This being the case, they have no love for anybody who rebels against Allah. This subject is emphasised in the following verses of the Qur’an:

You who believe! Do not take My enemy and your enemy as friends, showing love for them when they have rejected the truth that has come to you, driving the Messenger and yourselves out of your city simply because you believe in Allah your Lord. If you go out to fight in My Way and seeking My pleasure, keeping secret the love you have for them, I know best what you conceal and what you make known. Any of you who do that have strayed from the right way. (Surat al-Mumtahana: 1)

You will not find people who believe in Allah and the Last Day on friendly terms with anyone who opposes Allah and His Messenger, even though they be their fathers, their sons, their brothers or their nearest kindred… (Surat al-Mujadala: 22)

As the verses above make it clear, the love of a believer rests on no criterion other than the “love felt for Allah.” Setting aside all factors such as kinship or material wealth, this love is deeply rooted in faith and noble values. A believer has love for those whose faith is assured rather than for those possessing fame, money or social status, which are only seemingly important. Human beings ascribe natural causes to everything. The logic of “shadows are caused by the presence of the Sun” prevents people from seeing the miracles in life. For most people, miracles are “a chain of natural causes.” Here is an example of how this chain comes about:

Bread is made in a bakery. Bread is made from flour in the bakery. The flour is brought to the bakery from the factory. The factory receives the flour in the form of wheat from the distributor. The distributor obtains the wheat from the farmer. And the farmer obtains the wheat from his soil… There is a system of natural causes that people find perfectly credible. However, looked at with an open mind, this chain is in fact “a chain of miracles” every detail of which is created by Allah.

Allah reveals in one verse how He made the Sun their natural cause after first creating shadows:

Do you not see how your Lord stretches out shadows? If He had wished He could have made them stationary. Then We appoint the Sun to be the pointer to them. (Surat al-Furqan, 45)

Thought of in terms of causes, it might be seen as quite unremarkable for a flawless human being to form from the combination of a sperm and an egg, but in fact it is nothing of the kind. Anyone reflecting honestly on the subject will realize what a great miracle it is for a single drop of fluid to turn into a human being with a mind and soul. They will clearly see that Allah has created a human being by manifesting a great miracle. Allah’s sublime creative artistry is obvious, looked at with an open mind, no matter what the sequence of natural causes may be. As Allah reveals in another verse:

… “Do you then disbelieve in Him Who created you from dust, then from a drop of sperm, and then formed you as a man? He is, however, Allah, my Lord, and I will not associate anyone with my Lord.” (Surat al-Kahf, 37-38)

Looked at anew, the Earth seems to be suspended in the huge emptiness of space. It might seem unremarkable for the Earth to remain suspended in the profound voids of the universe through the effect of various forces of attraction, but it is nothing of the kind. Under normal circumstances, one would expect the Earth to be dragged into the Sun because of its gravitational attraction, or for its equilibrium to be completely impaired. But that is not how things stand. The way that our huge planet has remained in the same orbit, with the same balances, unharmed for billions of years in the boundless universe, never being damaged by any other celestial body and with all the conditions necessary to support life, cannot be explained away in terms of natural causes. That is because natural causes are dependent on very delicate balances, and that equilibrium could go wrong at any moment. Indeed, looked at through the logic of “natural causes,” it would seem more reasonable for the Earth to be damaged and obliterated. The fact that no such thing happens is due to Allah’s sublime compassion and protection. In another verse, Allah reveals:

We made the sky a preserved and protected roof yet still they turn away from Our Signs. (Surat al-Anbiya’, 32)

The heat of the Sun reaching the Earth at just the right level to meet human beings’ needs might also be regarded as unremarkable. The fact is, however, that the way the warmth of the Sun reaches our Earth despite the great distance and emptiness between them is a most important phenomenon. In double glazing, there is a space between the two surfaces in order to prevent the transmission of heat. This gap is intended to reduce loss of heat. Looked at in those terms, and bearing in mind that a vacuum cannot transmit heat, it is harder to understand how the warmth from the Sun reaches us without disappearing. Natural causes should make it impossible for the heat of the Sun to move through a vacuum. It is through the will of Allah that the heat of the Sun moves through space to the Earth, as if locked onto its target.

What people think of as “chains of natural causes” are in fact signs leading to faith requiring profound reflection. These signs are very important as instruments drawing believers closer to Allah.

Of all the countless signs leading to faith, just thinking about the eye alone is highly enlightening. The eye provides us with a clear image at all moments. Not even the most perfect camera can perform the same automatic optical operations as the lens in the eye. Even the automatic focusing of a camera requires a special effort and takes time for a clear image to appear. When a human being looks somewhere, however, he never thinks “I must now adjust the lens in my eye for looking into the distance.” It is of course impossible to imagine that such a detailed creation is performed by an unconscious lens. Allah has made the lens the natural cause of the clear images perceived by the eye. But it is our Lord, Almighty Allah, Who creates a bright, colored and vivid world in our minds. There is no doubt that with His creation our Lord is the Praiseworthy.

If Allah so willed He could have created everything with no natural causes. The existence of natural causes is important in order for us to comprehend the infinite wisdom of Allah. The way that natural causes are made interdependent on one another is proof that nothing can be the result of chance. With His sublime wisdom, Allah determines all things most exactly right down to the finest detail.

Insensitivity, apathy and indifference are attitudes evoking appreciation and respect in the society of the ignorant. People in such societies regard the ability to remain cold-blooded and unmoved in the face of events that should really stir their consciences as a great virtue. However, this is not a state of calmness stemming from moderation and behaving rationally in order to avoid panic. It is rather a cold-bloodedness stemming from people showing that they are totally indifferent.

In addition, this insensitivity, apathy, indifference and lack of sympathy are a state that numb people both physically and mentally and lead to sickness. In the same way that vivacity and enthusiasm bestow good health, so insensitivity and apathy may end in sickness.

Vivacity predominates in Muslim character. The distinguishing feature of the believer is that he is highly responsive and sensitive to the events that befall him, the words he hears and the behavior he encounters. A believer knows that apathy and indifference in the face of situations calling for an active response are incompatible with good conscience and fear of Allah. This verse from the Qur’an, “Our Lord, we heard a caller calling us to faith: ‘Believe in your Lord!’ and we believed…” (Surah Al ‘Imran, 193) reveal this attribute of believers. Immediate reaction, immediate response and immediate action are important qualities of believers. Qur’anic moral values can only be lived with vivacity, enthusiasm and excitement. A lively, active soul can be a role model for Muslims. Competing to do good is only possible by ridding oneself of apathy and indifference. This ethical model may be instrumental, Allah willing, in one’s attaining a good end in the Hereafter.

Therefore be patient with a beautiful patience. (Surat al-Ma’arij, 5) Only the faithful understand the true nature of patience and live in the manner of which Allah approves, for they have accepted the Qur’an as their guide. And, only the Qur’an explains the real meaning of patience and the type of patience that is acceptable to Allah. For this reason, the only people capable of being “patient with a beautiful patience” are those who follow the Qur’an.

The source of their patience is their faith in Allah and their submission to Him. Like all of their other characteristics, patience emerges only through a true understanding of faith, because to believe is to understand that there is no deity but Allah, that He encompasses all things in His knowledge, that only Allah has the power to determine one’s destiny, and that nobody can enjoy gain or suffer loss without His willing it.

One reason why the believers can show patience is because their faith enables them to appreciate Allah’s might and glory. Those who know that Allah has boundless wisdom and boundless knowledge also know that only He can determine what will be the finest life for them. They know that Allah possesses all knowledge about all creatures and events in the past, present, and future, whereas people have only a limited intelligence that is prone to making mistakes in determining what is good and what is bad. In most cases, a seemingly unfavorable event may bring many benefits, although people may well be totally unaware of this. Allah points out this important truth: “It may be that you hate something when it is good for you, and it may be that you love something when it is bad for you. Allah knows, and you do not know” (Surat al-Baqara, 216).

Thus, knowing that only Allah possesses this knowledge and wisdom, the believers put their trust in Him, fully aware that whatever He wills is always beneficial, even though the benefit may not be immediately apparent. Therefore, they display true patience. In other words, one characteristic of those who have true patience is that they are people who have grasped and embraced the nature of destiny.

The Qur’an states that the faithful are patient and put their trust in Allah, as follows:

Those who are steadfast and put their trust in their Lord. (Surat an-Nahl: 42)

Another reason why the believers exhibit such a patient determination throughout their lives is their strong fear and consciousness of Allah. Just as they know that Allah has a boundless love and mercy for His servants, they also know that the punishment of Hell is eternal. Allah warns those who consider themselves too great to worship Him and who turn their faces away from Him of the torment to come. As the faithful are aware of this warning, they take pains to avoid it by being extremely careful and patient in implementing all of Allah’s instructions and prohibitions. They channel their fear and consciousness of Allah into living the Qur’an’s morality throughout their lives.

Awareness of this world’s true face also ensures that the faithful will continue to be patient. As is stated in “We will test you until We know those of you who strive hard [for the cause of Allah] and those who are steadfast, and test what is reported of you” (Surah Muhammad, 31), Allah makes a distinction between those who show patience in their worship of Him and those who manifest their resistance by becoming impatient. As a result, He will give those who worship Him in this life noble residences as hospitality in the next, while punishing those who deny Him with an eternal, inescapable Hell.

No matter what hardship they encounter, the faithful know that such hardship is a test from Allah and so do not lose their patience. How could they, knowing that they will face the Day of Judgment and receive their reward for their fine morality? Allah’s Messenger (saas) also mentions that the believers remain patient when faced with calamity, since they always trust Allah, as follows:

The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant. From whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it. But when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but remains patient until Allah removes the difficulty). (Bukhari)

One fundamental element of patience is exactly this-the believers have certainty about the Day of Judgment and the afterlife. Armed with the strength they derive from the knowledge that they will be tested here and rewarded on the Day of Judgment for every event for which they showed patience, and that Allah gives the good news of His mercy to those who show patience, they are committed to showing patience.

As we can see, only the faithful can experience true patience, because only they have bound and delivered themselves up to a sincere faith in Allah, have appreciated His might, and put their trust in destiny. In addition, they have a powerful fear and consciousness of Allah, have understood this world’s true face, and believe firmly in the afterlife. From birth, people are brought up with a great deal of false indoctrination. They learn these suggestions and regard them as true. They have no qualms about building their whole lives around this supposed reality. This supposed reality consists of the supposition that everything actually exists. We are certain, for instance, that a television was assembled in a factory, whereas everything actually consists of images created inside the brain by Allah. Both the television and the factory we suppose the television was built in are merely images. We can never see their originals. All we experience are the copies in our brains. Yet we still have no doubt that this television was assembled in a factory, even though we have never seen it.  In the same way, people are absolutely sure that they themselves exist, whereas they are in fact merely an image, and that it is they themselves who are talking. They are absolutely convinced it is they who are walking. But images cannot walk or speak. Everything is shown to us, made to be heard by us or caused to be felt in the soul by Allah. Yet despite all these facts, people are still capable of believing in unreal teachings because of indoctrination.  This means that human beings are created with a predisposition to such indoctrination. This way, Allah shows us the existence of such a power of human beings.

If we were told right from childhood that everything is an image, then we would be 100% convinced of that and live our lives accordingly. If someone wishes to live according to the truth, then he or she must do so in the knowledge that everything is an image and that Allah is the only absolute being.

Our Lord reveals this in a verse:

Allah, there is no deity but Him, the Living, the Self-Sustaining. He is not subject to drowsiness or sleep. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them but they cannot grasp any of His knowledge save what He wills. His Footstool encompasses the heavens and the earth and their preservation does not tire Him. He is the Most High, the Magnificent. (Surat al-Baqara, 255)

A believer is one who has been purified of idolatry and other forms of ignorance, such as placing his hopes on imaginary deities or seeking their approval, thereby becoming subservient to them. He serves Allah alone and seeks the approval of Allah alone. As mentioned earlier, he does this by “striving with all due striving.”

The key to “striving with all due striving” on Allah’s way is to seek what pleases Allah most. In the face of several choices, all of which are legitimate, a believer must choose the one that pleases Allah most.

This can be briefly described as follows:

– A believer must spend his entire life doing what is “lawful.” The Qur’an makes clear which actions are unlawful, and these are indeed very few in number. Anything other than these unlawful deeds is lawful.

– In addition to this, what a believer must do is attend to the deeds and thoughts that please Allah most. In this endeavour, his wisdom and “foresight” guide him.

The example of “spending in the way of Allah” (infaq) will make this concept clearer. A believer is a person who has sold his “property and self” to Allah. He should put whatever he has to use in the way that pleases Allah most. However, he may frequently encounter many choices. Let us assume that he has a considerable amount of money with which he could buy a new suit for himself. This is indeed a legitimate and lawful thing to do; being meticulous about one’s appearance is surely something in conformity with Allah’s will. However, there may be other things to do with this money which would please Allah better. Giving it to a needy person might well please Allah more. However, this is a decision that rests entirely with the person himself. Considering the specific conditions and environment he is in, he must establish his priorities by consulting his conscience.

Another example will lead to a better understanding of this concept: A believer is responsible for “enjoining good and forbidding evil,” communicating Allah’s religion and carrying out a struggle on intellectual grounds against the tyrants in the world. Shouldering this all-important responsibility is one way to earn the good pleasure of Allah. Such a responsibility means that certain duties always take precedence. Since there are so many duties demanded by such an important responsibility, it would be incorrect to give priority to any other deed, albeit a legitimate and lawful one. For instance, a man is responsible for taking care of his family; he is the one who provides security and sustenance for the family members. However, using this as an excuse to avoid the responsibility of “enjoining good and forbidding evil” would be conduct unbecoming to a believer.

Indeed, upon reflection, we can see that the “soul” (an-nafs) is involved when one prefers what is less valuable in the presence of Allah. Preferring the less valuable to the more valuable in the presence of Allah is a consequence of setting aside a “share” for one’s soul. In this sense, what one needs to accomplish is not to be guided by one’s soul, but to go all-out to seek the total approval of Allah. Seeking Allah’s consent by a ninety nine percent effort and setting aside a one percent share for the soul may not be acceptable in the eyes of Allah. That is because the person in question has associated his soul with Allah. A mere one percent of idolatry may render his services unacceptable. The situation of those who ascribe partners to any being other than Allah is described as follows:

They assign to Allah a share of the crops and livestock He has created, saying, “This is for Allah,”as they allege“and this is for our idols.” Their idols’ share does not reach Allah, whereas Allah’s share reaches their idols! What an evil judgement they make! (Surat al-An‘am: 136)

As for seeking what most pleases Allah, the attitude of believers in wartime in the days of the Prophet (saas) is related in the Qur’an. In the face of two groups of enemies, believers preferred to fight against the weaker of the two. Yet it was Allah’s will that there should be a fight against the stronger. These events are related in the verses as follows:

When Allah promised you that one of the two parties would be yours, you would have preferred the unarmed one, whereas Allah sought to fulfill His promise and to rout the last remnant of the disbelievers. This was so that the Truth should triumph and falsehood be discomfited, even though the evil-doers hated that. (Surat al-Anfal: 7-8)

Finally, Allah made the believers confront the stronger party and led them to the one thing that would please Him most. Ultimately, they triumphed with the help of Allah.

The example related above is an event shaped within the conditions of that period. Yet the fact remains that in every age Muslims are put to the test through different events. Today, for instance, Muslims must engage in a struggle on intellectual grounds against those who deny the Qur’an and the facts of creation and who strive to sow immorality in society. Muslims should determine the best course to follow in this struggle they take upon themselves and then carry it out with commitment. Yet, even if one has the strength to shoulder this responsibility, if one involves oneself with issues of no great urgency only to satisfy one’s own desires, that will only incur the displeasure of Allah.

Meanwhile, we need to bear in mind that the expression, “doing what is most pleasing to Allah” is used to make the concept more comprehensible. Turning away from what pleases Allah most and involving oneself with tasks of secondary importance is in fact displeasing to Allah. Hence, that one thing that pleases Allah most is, under all circumstances, whatever is in accordance with His will. To put it another way, there is no alternative to what pleases Allah most.

For his salvation, a believer is responsible for seeking “what pleases Allah most.” Failing to do so means being unaware of the danger waiting ahead. In the face of the humiliation one will face in hell and in the presence of Allah, it is surely essential to seek “what pleases Allah most.”

A few examples of the attitude one displays in the face of dangers that one may encounter in this world and the efforts one makes to deal with them will lead to a better understanding of how one seeks what pleases Allah most:

– Assume that you are face to face with a giant torrent and the water level is rising rapidly. In this situation, would you run to the top of a ten-storey building to save yourself, or remain on the fifth-floor and say, “This place is high enough to save me”?

– Let’s assume that there is a lift that can take you to the top floor. This lift is not free of charge and it will operate only once. You have just the right amount of money to take you to the top floor. Would you give all the money you have to go to the top, or remain at a lower storey which is vulnerable to the torrent?

– Again, let’s assume that there is a party being held on the sixth-floor, where you have taken refuge. Would you attend the party or strive to find a way to the top floor?

– As another example, let’s assume that one of your close friends has had a heart attack and he or she should immediately be taken to the emergency room. In this situation, would you drive as fast as you can or not drive so fast and say, “This is fast enough, he or she must bear up.”?

As is apparent from the examples above, in the face of danger, a man becomes vigilant and does his utmost to be saved from it. The biggest threat to man is hell. One of the most important goals of a person who seeks what pleases Allah most, is his inner inclination to avoid this danger.

For a moment, let’s assume that you are on the edge of hell, around which people will be gathered on the Day of Judgement and witness its stunning images. Having seen hell, would you not choose what pleases Allah most out of a number of alternatives?

Disbelievers do their best to “make the most” of their lives, which is nothing but “a brief enjoyment” (Surah Al ‘Imran: 197). While this “brief enjoyment” is doomed to a bitter end, Allah promises His approval, mercy and paradise for believers. A believer, who wishes to avail himself of these promises of Allah, must strive hard to seek what most pleases Him.  (For further reading see Harun Yahya “Devoted to Allah”)

Muslims take “taqwa” (awe or fear of Allah which inspires the individual to be on guard against wrong actions and eager for ones which please Him) as the only criterion by which to appraise people. As the Prophet (saas) said, they know that “the most perfect man in his faith among the believers is the one whose behaviour is most excellent.” (Tirmidhi) In ignorant societies, however, which are made up of people with no faith, “money” is considered the main criterion by which to form an opinion of others:

This being the case, many distorted rationales appear in ignorant societies:

– A rich person, albeit indecent and corrupted, is paid respect.
– Due to this rule laid down by society, one who is “rich but indecent” believes himself actually to be an “estimable” person.
– Because society attaches so much importance to “money,” the poor lack self-confidence. This attitude of the poor becomes most obvious when they are among the rich. A poor person may well recognise that he is superior to the rich man next to him because the latter is depraved. However, under the influence of ideas instilled by society, he is unable to overcome his feelings of inadequacy.
– In the society of ignorance, where the possession of “money” is a highly estimable criterion, moral degeneration prevails. Such corruption appears in various forms, such as bribery, abuse of authority or forgery, and is almost totally incorporated into daily life. Since the successful amassing of money is the most important value, all methods rendering the making of money possible, no matter how immoral and unjust they may be, are legitimised.

The story of Qarun in the Qur’an best describes the “money-oriented” stance of the society of ignorance:

Qarun was one of the people of Musa but he lorded it over them. We gave him such treasures that their very keys would have been too heavy a weight for a band of strong men. When his people said to him, “Do not gloat. Allah does not love people who gloat. Seek the abode of the hereafter with what Allah has given you, without forgetting your share in this world. And do good as Allah has been good to you. And do not seek to cause corruption in the land. Allah does not love corrupters.” he said: “I have only been given these riches because of the knowledge I have.” Did he not know that before him Allah had destroyed generations with far greater strength than his and far more possessions? The evil-doers will not be questioned about their sins. He went out among his people in all his finery. Those who desired the life of the world said: “Oh! If only we had the same as Qarun has been given! What immense good fortune he possesses.” But those who had been given knowledge said: “Woe to you! Allah’s reward is better for those who have faith and act rightly. But only the steadfast will attain it.” We caused the earth to swallow up both him and his house. There was no group to come to his aid, besides Allah, nor was he able to defend himself. Those who had longed to take his place the day before began to say: “Allah gives abundantly to whom He will, and sparingly to whom He pleases. If Allah had not shown great kindness to us, we would have been swallowed up as well. Ah! Truly the disbelievers are not successful.” As for the abode of the hereafter, We shall grant it to those who do not seek to exalt themselves in this world or to cause corruption in it. The successful outcome is for those who fear Allah. (Surat al-Qasas: 76-83)

As can be understood from the verses, Qarun and those who envied him were representative of a typical society of ignorance. They failed to comprehend that Allah is the owner of everything and that Allah bestows possessions upon whoever He wishes. Qarun thought that the wealth he possessed had been given to him because of his superiority. But this was not so.

Because Allah creates every being, He is the real owner of everything. In this sense, one who owns something may be considered as a “trustee,” temporarily taking care of a possession which actually belongs to Allah. Blessings bestowed upon people are given to them not because they are superior or because they possess something important. These blessings are given to man as a favour or as a trial. What is expected of him in return is not to grow “arrogant” but to be “grateful” to Allah. If one fails to understand this, the property he owns brings him neither happiness nor salvation in this world and in the Hereafter.

Those who can distance themselves from the inculcations of society are the true believers. Because the criterion of believers was not money but faith and because they knew all property belonged to Allah, they realised that it was unwise to envy Qarun. Furthermore, they understood that he was certainly in a pitiable position. Unlike the members of the society of ignorance, they did not say: “Allah gives abundantly to whom He wills, or sparingly to whom he pleases” after Qarun’s death, but comprehended this fact right at the beginning. (For further reading see Harun Yahya Devoted to Allah)
